NEPAL CARTS
As a lifelong admirer of kathmandu's vibrant heritage and natural beauty, I found Nepal Carts to celebrate the timeless craft of felt making while honoring Nepal's rich artistic traditions. My journey began, in a small village Ghandruk nestled between the snow capped peaks of the Annapurna range, my friend grandmother named fulesari sits cross legged on her porch, her hands dancing over a pile of soft raw wool beside her. Her granddaughter Janki watches intently as fulesari demonstrates an ancient art passed down through generations the craft of felt making.
Felt is not just fabric, Fulesari explains her voice warm and steady, "it is the story of our land. The wool comes from the sheep that graze our mountains, the colors from the roots and flowers of our soil. Every fold carries the breath of the maker".
For centuries, families like fulesari have transformed humble wool into intricate felted textiles, using techniques honed by time. But in recent years, the craft faced a silent threat. Cheap, mass production goods flooded markets, and younger generation drifted toward cities, leaving behind the slow, sacred work of their ancestors. Fulesari's village, once alive with the rhythmic pounding of wool and the laughter of artisans, grew quieter.
A collective of local women, lead by Nepal Carts, began to reimagine felt not as a relic of the past but as a bridge to the future.
